How to Measure for Custom Made Cushions
The most important thing to remember when measuring for new cushions is to measure the furniture you will be using the cushions on, not the existing cushions. Over time, fabric will stretch or "sag" in the wash and lose its shape, so if we take measurements from your existing cushions, your new ones may not fit as perfectly as you would like.
How to measure for custom made sofa, bench, built-in bench, lounge chair cushions.
- Measure the length of the cushion area in centimeters rounded to the nearest centimeter. This is the side where we will place a sturdy zipper.
- Measure the width of the cushion area in centimeters rounded to the nearest centimeter
- Decide on the thickness you want. Most cushions range from 5cm to 10cm but they can be made to any thickness you want per centimeter.
Note : if you are measuring furniture for a back cushion, subtract the thickness of the seat cushion from the height of the back cushion.
The cushions are wrapped in acrylic wadding with fabric and therefore have an additional initial thickness of 0.5cm
How to measure for decorative sofa cushions or floor cushions
- Measure the length of the cushion from seam to seam in millimeters rounded to the nearest centimeter. This is the side where we will place a durable zipper.
- Measure the width of the cushion from seam to seam in centimetres rounded to the nearest centimetre. Remember, once the cushions are filled, the height and width will be slightly smaller than the measurements ordered. For example, a 45cm x 45cm cushion, when filled, will be 37cm x 37cm.
How to measure for cushions – sunbed mattresses
- Measure the width of the sunbed in centimeters
- Measure the length of the head of the sunbed in centimeters
- Decide on the thickness of the cushion in centimeters. Most sunbed cushions are 7cm or 10cm thick but can be made to any thickness you desire per centimeter.
- Then, measure the length of the seat part of the furniture in centimeters so that we can make the "break" at this point

- Measure the width of the seat in centimeters
- Measure the height of the chair back in centimeters
- Measure the thickness you would like the cushion to be.
